For over 450 years, King Edward’s School has provided an education that has enabled the boys of Birmingham and the surrounding areas to go on to achieve great things.
Today, the School is home to 850 boys from an incredibly wide range of backgrounds. We see it as our mission to help them develop into young adults who are ready and able to tackle the challenges of modern life.
The world is changing at a dizzying pace and, when their time comes, our boys will be doing jobs that do not exist yet. They will be working with people from all parts of the globe and dealing with a climate of ever increasing uncertainty. To thrive in such testing conditions, we need to give them a grounding that runs both broad and deep.
They need to understand how to get the best out of themselves – and other people – and learn how to work collaboratively to solve ever more complex problems. They need to learn how to manage risk and build the resilience to overcome obstacles. Above all, we want them to be curious about the world they live in and to find a happy and well-balanced life for themselves within it.
This is quite a tall order for any school, however, this website aims to give you a flavour of how we go about it. We want our boys to discover and develop their passions, inspired by being part of a rich and diverse community which values effort and commitment above all else. We also want them to have fun and enjoy their school life to the full.
The IB Diploma, our Friday afternoon activities programme, the emphasis on music, drama and team sports – as well as immersion in the extraordinary intellectual life of the School – all work together to create an ethos in which boys can flourish and mature into the kind of young men in whom we can all take pride.
I want the young men who leave King Edward’s School to be kind-hearted, happy in who they have become and able to share an optimistic outlook with the world; confident in what they can achieve themselves but able to embrace the perspectives of others.
